Phase 3 of Shanghai Metro Line 9 Opening Soon
By Hu Yuzhou
Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission (SMTC) has announced Phase 3 of Shanghai Metro Line 9 will commence test runs at the end of this year.
From November 20 to 27, Shanghai Transportation Trade Association, as a third-party, undertook a comprehensive assessment on the eastern extension section of Line 9. The members from the association are unanimous in their decision that it met all requirements and has qualified for the test run.
Phase 3 of Line 9 covers a distance of 8.59 miles (13.82 km), with 9 newly-added stations. It will also include interchanges to Line 12 and Line 14 (which is still under construction).
The extension starts from Middle Yanggao Road (the current termination of Line 9), via Fangdian Road, Lantian Road, Taierzhuang Road, Jinqiao, Jinji Road, Jinhai Road, Gutang Road, and Minlei Road, to Caolu Town.
Although we have to wait a month to gain access to these stations, we can get a glimpse of the inside of the stations thanks to photos taken by @shanghaipost. The photos are taken at Fangdian Road station, Jinji Road station and Caolu Station.
In addition, all turnstiles within the station are equipped with QR code scanning areas, which will allow travelers to pay their fare with their own cell phones, even without WiFi.
With Line 17 also opening at the end of this year, Shanghai Metro is sure to connect all districts of the city more closely and bring more convenience to everyday travel.
